TV shipped very fast. It works well. Great pictures. I am not able to get all of the local channels but i need to play with the set up some.

UPDATE 9/6/11: I have set up correctly now and I am now getting all local channels. I am pleased with this product.

Does not work with digital cable boxes

Beware! Even though they advertise “Digital ATSC Tuner”, this unit will NOT work with any digital cable box, according to their support number given in the product manual. Now we have to return it.

UPDATE: One reason this does not work with cable boxes (there may be other technical electronic reasons I’m not familiar with) is there is no way to set the TV to channel 3 or 4.

It will not take a cable input.

It will ONLY take digital cable – which means the “free to air” channels you would get if you plugged your DIGITAL cable into your TV directly, without a cable box.

Cable boxes output an analog signal. When we searched, we could not locate any model which outputs a digital signal (though the support people at Comcast will claim otherwise, don’t believe them – they’re thinking of the input to the cable boxes, not the output). There also are not any available converters to convert an analog cable signal into digital (though a large number of “digital to analog” ones being marketed as “analog to digital” (I guess ‘connect an analog tv to digital signal’, rather than ‘convert an analog signal to digital’).

Long story short, there is no way to use these with a cable box. Which is a real pity, as they were otherwise excellent – but they are entirely useless, except in a car or something where you’re relying on broadcast TV.
